He played the hell out of Calvin Candie in Django Unchained. That was kind of the first role I saw him in where he wasn’t, as you said, just being Leo the actor.

I wouldn’t say terrible, but I agree with the sentiment. He did a great job in Django Unchained, and Gilbert Grape from what I remember, and flashes in other movies here and there. He’s a movie star more than an actor. I still like him. Revenant I wouldn’t even blame on him, there’s barely a character there. It’s a story about things happening to a guy, not about the guy.
